Chief Accountant

About the role

A leading financial services organization, represented by its recruiter Career Directions Limited, is looking for an experienced Chief Accountant to oversee its accounting and financial reporting functions in Juba, South Sudan. The successful candidate provides strong financial leadership, ensures accurate and timely reporting, maintains robust financial controls and supports compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements. The role suits a commercially aware accountant with experience in money transfer, remittances, fintech, payments, foreign exchange or related financial services.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting and financial operations
• Prepare and review financial statements, management reports and financial analyses
• Maintain accounting records and supporting documentation
• Manage the general ledger, reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable and cash management
• Set up and maintain financial controls and accounting procedures
• Monitor cash flows, budgets, expenditures and financial performance
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax requirements and regulatory obligations
• Support internal and external audits and resolve audit findings
• Work with senior management on financial insights and business decisions
• Monitor financial risks and recommend mitigation measures
• Supervise, mentor and develop the finance and accounting team
• Liaise with banks, auditors, regulators and tax authorities

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related field
• CPA(K) / CPA qualification is mandatory
• 5-10 years of relevant accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a senior accounting or finance role
• Experience in money transfer and remittances, fintech, payments, forex or financial services is highly preferred; regulated financial services experience is an added advantage
• Valid Kenyan passport and willingness to relocate to Juba
• Previous regional or international work experience is an added advantage
