Country Director – South Sudan

About the role

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is seeking a senior leader to serve as Country Director for its operations in South Sudan. Based in Juba, the Director will oversee all programme activities, ensure strategic alignment with DRC’s global mandate, and represent the organisation to donors, authorities and partners.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and innovation across protection, WASH, shelter and economic recovery programmes.
• Manage senior staff, set performance goals, and ensure effective decision‑making and team morale.
• Represent DRC in coordination mechanisms, advocacy forums and donor engagements.
• Oversee financial management, accountability systems and impact measurement.
• Ensure safety, welfare and compliance with humanitarian principles.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in senior management within humanitarian or development contexts.
• Proven ability to lead multi‑disciplinary teams in complex environments.
• Strong advocacy, negotiation and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
• Demonstrated track record in fundraising and resource mobilisation.
