Senior Education Manager (Roving)

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a Senior Education Manager to lead the implementation of PlayMatters 3.0 (PM3.0) in South Sudan. This multi‑year initiative, funded by the LEGO Foundation, uses a learning‑through‑play approach to improve safe, inclusive and quality learning for children affected by crisis and recovery contexts.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership for the PM3.0 programme, ensuring alignment with IRC’s strategy and the consortium’s objectives.
• Strengthen the national and sub‑national education systems to adopt and institutionalise learning‑through‑play methodologies.
• Coordinate closely with consortium partners (War Child Alliance, Plan International) and local education authorities.
• Oversee programme monitoring, evaluation, learning and reporting, ensuring data‑driven decision‑making.
• Manage programme budgets, procurement and compliance with donor requirements.
• Facilitate capacity‑building activities for teachers, administrators and community stakeholders.
• Advocate for inclusive, child‑friendly learning environments, especially for vulnerable groups.

Required profile

• Senior‑level professional with extensive experience in education programming within humanitarian or post‑conflict settings.
• Proven track record of system‑strengthening and implementing innovative learning approaches.
• Experience managing multi‑partner projects and large‑scale budgets.
• Strong understanding of South Sudan’s education context or comparable environments.
• Fluent in English; knowledge of local languages is an asset.
