Senior Safeguarding Officer

About the role

The IRC is hiring a Senior Safeguarding Officer for its EFASS project in South Sudan. The role supports the effective implementation of safeguarding standards so that programming remains safe, respectful and accountable for clients, communities, staff, volunteers, contractors and partners. It works closely with programme teams, People and Culture, supply chain, operations, community feedback mechanisms, field staff, implementing partners and community structures.

Key responsibilities

• Support implementation and enforcement of safeguarding standards and project procedures, advise teams on risks and mitigation, and escalate concerns through IRC channels
• Take part in safeguarding risk assessments, action planning and monitoring of mitigation measures
• Deliver safeguarding induction, orientation and refresher sessions, and develop awareness materials on the Code of Conduct, PSEA, child safeguarding and reporting obligations
• Strengthen safe, confidential reporting channels and maintain referral pathways and service mapping
• Maintain safeguarding trackers, records and action plans securely and confidentially, and monitor compliance
• Support partner safeguarding capacity strengthening and take part in safeguarding and project reviews

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in social work, law, psychology, gender studies, development studies, public health, human rights, community development or another relevant field
• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in safeguarding, protection, PSEA, GBV, child protection or accountability, preferably with NGOs in complex or insecure settings
• Experience delivering trainings and working with communities and partners; knowledge of Arabic and/or local languages is an advantage
• Strong written and spoken English; good computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Required skills

• Good understanding of safeguarding, PSEA, child safeguarding and Code of Conduct principles
• Ability to analyse safeguarding risks and propose practical mitigation measures
• Full adherence to IRC policies: Code of Conduct, Safeguarding Policy, PSEA, Child Safeguarding, Anti-Harassment, Anti-Retaliation, Fraud Prevention, Health, Safety and Security, Data protection and donor compliance requirements
