Country Director – South Sudan & Uganda

About the role

The Country Director for South Sudan and Uganda will lead Mercy Corps’ multi‑sector programmes, driving strategic growth, innovation and impact across both countries. This senior position reports to regional leadership and is responsible for delivering high‑quality, donor‑accountable results.

Key responsibilities

• Define and communicate a compelling vision and strategy for Mercy Corps in South Sudan and Uganda, aligning with regional and global goals.
• Oversee design, implementation and monitoring of multi‑sector programmes, ensuring compliance with donor requirements and Mercy Corps standards.
• Lead donor engagement, secure resources and represent the organization with government, private sector and civil‑society partners.
• Build and manage a high‑performing, inclusive team across both countries, fostering a culture of accountability and learning.
• Drive innovation, research and knowledge sharing to enhance resilience, climate adaptation and market‑system development.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in humanitarian or development contexts, managing large, multi‑country portfolios.
• Demonstrated ability to secure funding, influence stakeholders and deliver results in complex, volatile environments.
