Country Director – South Sudan

About the role

The Country Director will provide overall strategic direction and operational leadership for NRC’s programmes across South Sudan. Reporting to the ESA Regional Director, the role ensures NRC remains a principled humanitarian actor while responding to a complex, volatile context.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Country Management Group and represent NRC in inter‑agency coordination, advocacy and resource mobilisation.
• Analyse political and humanitarian dynamics to adapt programmes and ensure relevance.
• Drive high‑impact delivery of rapid response, cash assistance, protection, education, shelter, WASH and other programmes.
• Foster strong relationships with government, donors, UN agencies and local partners.
• Promote accountability, safeguarding and adherence to humanitarian principles.

Required profile

• Minimum seven years of managerial experience, including at least five years as a senior manager or Country Director in a humanitarian or recovery setting.
• Proven experience working in complex, volatile contexts and leading diverse, multi‑national teams.
• Fluency in written and spoken English and ability to represent the organisation at a strategic level.
