Staff Counsellor

About the role
The Staff Counsellor will be based in the UNICEF South Sudan Country Office in Juba and will support the implementation of UNICEF's Staff Wellbeing Framework. Reporting to the Representative or a designated delegate, the role works closely with People & Culture, security, medical services and regional wellbeing teams to strengthen staff resilience and promote a healthy workplace.
Key responsibilities
- Provide confidential individual and group psychosocial counselling to staff and managers.
- Deliver stress‑management, resilience‑building and wellbeing interventions.
- Advise managers on healthy workplace practices and staff support during emergencies.
- Design and facilitate psycho‑education sessions, workshops, webinars and anti‑stigma initiatives.
- Conduct mandatory pre‑deployment and post‑deployment psychosocial briefings.
- Coordinate the Peer Support Volunteer Programme and strengthen peer networks.
- Deliver Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) including Psychological First Aid (PFA), leadership guidance, family support and post‑incident interventions.
- Develop wellbeing resources such as toolkits, videos and digital awareness materials.
- Monitor staff wellbeing trends, prepare confidential reports and recommend preventive actions.
- Collaborate with People & Culture, security, medical services and regional wellbeing teams.
Required profile
- Minimum 7 years of relevant professional experience, including at least 3 years at the international level.
- Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Organizational Psychology or a related mental‑health field.
- Country‑specific licensure or membership with a certifying authority is an asset.
- Fluent English (required).
