Senior Nutrition Officer

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is recruiting a Senior Nutrition Officer for its health and nutrition programme in Ajuong Thok, Pamir and Hakima, South Sudan. The postholder provides technical and operational leadership for nutrition services, working with the Ministry of Health, the County Health Department, UNHCR, UNICEF, WFP and other partners. The role covers community outreach, the Outpatient Therapeutic Programme (OTP), the Targeted Supplementary Feeding Programme (TSFP) and Stabilisation Centre (SC) services.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and monitor nutrition activities across the three sites, keeping monthly and weekly implementation plans aligned with project targets, budgets and donor commitments.
• Supervise community outreach, active case finding, MUAC screening, referral and follow-up, and support community mobilization and behaviour change communication.
• Provide technical oversight of OTP, TSFP and SC services, including admission, treatment, monitoring, referral and discharge, and ensure accurate recording of anthropometric data and treatment progress.
• Monitor beneficiary caseloads, commodity availability, service quality and performance, and act on operational challenges and high default rates.
• Manage nutrition commodity forecasts, stock rotation, expiry dates and reporting, and liaise with WFP, UNICEF and partners on supply chains.
• Collect and report nutrition data, prepare weekly, monthly and donor reports, maintain dashboards and action trackers, and support monitoring, evaluation and accountability to affected populations.
• Supervise and mentor nutrition staff, take part in recruitment, performance reviews and training, and ensure safeguarding and PSEA compliance.
• Coordinate with the Health and Nutrition Manager, health facilities, community structures and external partners, and contribute to work plans, budgets and procurement plans.
