Medical Officer (CST-II), Juba, South Sudan
Programme Alimentaire Mondial · Ville de Djouba
Job description
About the role
The World Food Programme (WFP) South Sudan needs a Medical Officer (Consultant Health & Wellness, CST level II) for its Juba Medical Assistance Team (JMAT) clinic. WFP South Sudan has over 700 staff in Juba and field offices in an extremely fragile security situation. The Medical Officer provides primary and emergency healthcare to WFP staff, eligible dependents, consultants and volunteers, and travels to support field offices when required. The assignment lasts 11 months and is renewable subject to performance and funding availability.
Key responsibilities
- Provide evidence-based primary and emergency care in Juba and field offices, oversee diagnosis, treatment and follow-up, and guide medical staff on complex cases.
- Manage the day-to-day running of the JMAT clinic, including workplans, triage, consultations, referrals and follow-up, and maintain SOPs, informed consent and patient safety.
- Oversee medical supplies and equipment, including stock, expiry, cold chain and maintenance, and maintain infection prevention, clinical waste disposal and hygiene standards.
- Maintain confidential medical records and provide anonymised reports on service use and health trends.
- Supervise the local doctor and nurses, set duties and rosters, and provide mentoring and continuing professional development.
- Support staff health and safety: identify health hazards, ensure compliance with WHO vaccination, HIV/AIDS and PEP protocols and first-aid/IFAK training, and manage sick leave.
- Provide medical services for staff on official travel, including immunization, prophylaxis and travel medical kits.
- Assist with recruitment medical clearances, periodic exams and pre-departure briefings, and liaise with local facilities to set up a referral list and monitor major medical bills.
- Support the implementation of third-party medical provider memoranda of understanding and provide advice on chronic conditions.
Required profile
- Clinical experience and a proactive public health and community health approach.
- A blend of family practice, public health, occupational health and emergency medicine.
- Ability to coordinate closely with UN and local medical services and to use available resources in a setting with scarce health care.
What we offer
- An attractive compensation package (see the Terms and Conditions of the vacancy).
- Training, accreditation, coaching, mentorship and internal mobility opportunities.
- A diverse, multicultural working environment.
