Life Skill and Artisan Trainer – Maban, South Sudan

About the role

The Life Skill and Artisan Trainer will equip refugee and host‑community participants in Maban with practical bead‑making, artisan, life‑skill and entrepreneurship competencies aligned with the UNHCR MADE51 framework. The role supports the Roots social‑enterprise partner to produce market‑ready, culturally‑rich products that enable sustainable livelihoods and financial independence.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct rapid assessments of trainees’ existing artisanal skills, cultural craft traditions and capacity gaps.
• Recommend suitable training approaches and coordinate with Roots to organise production of beaded products.
• Develop a detailed training schedule, lesson plans and learner‑friendly materials aligned with MADE51 quality and market‑readiness standards; distribute production kits.
• Prepare and submit high‑quality donor reports on a monthly, quarterly and ad‑hoc basis; maintain regular communication with WFP, UNICEF and other stakeholders and support donor visits, audits and evaluations.
• Produce beadwork and craft items such as necklaces, bracelets, earrings, waist beads and decorative accessories for market‑ready products.

Required profile

• Experience conducting training needs assessments for artisan or livelihood programmes.
• Ability to design and deliver technical training sessions and develop training materials.
• Proven record of preparing donor reports and liaising with humanitarian partners.
• Practical knowledge of bead‑making and craft production techniques.
• Ability to work collaboratively with local social‑enterprise partners such as Roots.
