About the role
The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights is seeking a Human Rights Officer/Economic Crimes Adviser to support the Commission on Human Rights in South Sudan. Working under the Coordinator and the Chief of the Investigations Support Section, you will contribute to the monitoring, analysis, and investigation of human rights and economic crime issues.
Key responsibilities
- Review, monitor and evaluate implementation of international human rights instruments and treaty body recommendations.
- Prepare human‑rights sections of reports for the General Assembly, Human Rights Council and other UN bodies.
- Investigate complex illicit financial flows linked to human‑rights violations, liaising with regional and international financial institutions.
- Produce analytical briefs following fact‑finding missions.
- Collaborate with UN and NGOs to integrate business and human‑rights considerations, including gender dimensions, into programmes.
- Maintain up‑to‑date information on substantive human‑rights matters and advise on appropriate actions.
- Coordinate with other UN sectors, international organisations and governments on policy and coordination matters.
- Support the investigations team leader with staff, planning and budget coordination.
- Train and supervise junior staff and perform other related duties as required.
Required profile
- Strong knowledge of a wide range of human‑rights issues and the ability to address complex, sensitive cases.
- Understanding of the mandates, policies and procedures of human‑rights organisations.
- Ability to evaluate and integrate information from diverse sources and assess its impact on the human‑rights situation.
