Education Officer – PlayMatters 3.0

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking an Education Officer to support the implementation of PlayMatters 3.0, a multi‑year learning‑through‑play initiative funded by the LEGO Foundation in South Sudan. The role focuses on day‑to‑day field implementation, teacher training, and community engagement to improve access to safe, inclusive, quality learning.

Key responsibilities

• Support daily implementation of PlayMatters activities at schools and community sites, ensuring alignment with workplans, timelines, and quality standards.
• Coordinate teacher training, mentorship, CPD activities and community engagement, delivering Learning through Play (LtP) approaches.
• Track progress, identify challenges, and provide timely updates to supervisors; manage distribution of teaching and learning materials.
• Conduct field monitoring visits, collect and verify data for RMEAL systems, and contribute to activity and donor reporting.
• Maintain regular coordination with local education authorities, schools, TTIs and partners, representing PlayMatters in coordination forums.

Required profile

• Degree in Education, Teacher Education, Social Science or related field.
• 2‑3 years of experience in education programming, preferably in humanitarian or development contexts.
• Understanding of South Sudan’s education system and local coordination mechanisms.
• Strong communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills; ability to work in resource‑constrained settings.
• Willingness to travel frequently to field locations and fluency in English and the local language.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
• Basic data management and reporting tools.
