Country Director – South Sudan

About the role

The Danish Refugee Council is seeking an experienced professional to lead its operations in South Sudan. Based in Juba, the Country Director will report to the Executive Director of the East Africa & Great Lakes Hub and provide strategic direction for all programmes and support services.

Key responsibilities

• Provide visionary, inclusive leadership for DRC’s South Sudan portfolio.
• Develop and implement the country strategy in line with global priorities.
• Represent DRC with national authorities, donors, UN agencies, NGOs and coordination forums.
• Lead advocacy on displacement, humanitarian access and protection issues.
• Ensure high‑quality, compliant and impactful programme delivery.
• Oversee financial management, operational risk, and staff safety and wellbeing.
• Supervise the Head of Programme, Head of Support Services, Area Managers and Head of Safety.

Required profile

• Highly qualified and motivated professional with extensive senior management experience in humanitarian settings.
• Proven ability to navigate complex, volatile environments and deliver results.
• Strong external representation and advocacy skills.
• Demonstrated expertise in programme development, fundraising and donor engagement.
• Experience in financial oversight, risk management and staff welfare.
