Child Protection Officer (Temporary) – UNICEF South Sudan

About the role
UNICEF is seeking a dedicated Child Protection Officer to support gender‑based violence (GBV) prevention and risk‑mitigation activities in Wau, South Sudan. Working under the Chief of Field Office and in close collaboration with the GBViE Specialist, the officer will ensure that interventions meet UNICEF’s global standards and deliver tangible protection outcomes for children and women in crisis‑affected communities.
Key responsibilities
- Provide technical oversight and quality assurance for GBV prevention and child protection programmes.
- Develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate interventions in line with UNICEF and IASC guidelines.
- Offer technical support to partner organisations, especially women‑led NGOs, on case management, psychosocial support, safe identification and referral mechanisms.
- Coordinate closely with the GBViE Specialist and field offices to ensure coherence across programmes.
- Prepare regular reports and data analyses to inform strategic decisions.
Required profile
- University degree in social sciences, humanitarian studies, public health, or a related field.
- Proven experience in GBV prevention, child protection, or similar humanitarian programmes.
- Experience working in South Sudan or comparable emergency contexts.
- Strong analytical, coordination and reporting skills.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages is an asset.
Required skills
- GBV case management and psychosocial support methodologies.
- Risk‑mitigation and safe‑identification procedures.
- Familiarity with UNICEF, IASC and Core Commitments guidelines.
- Data collection, monitoring and evaluation techniques.
- Stakeholder engagement and partnership management.
