Sports Health Officer – Tonj, Warrap State

About the role

The Sports Health Officer will lead the Amref CFF Centre Court Basketball Programme in Tonj, using sport to promote health, life‑skills and social cohesion among adolescents in conflict‑affected communities. The role combines coaching, mentorship and community engagement to create safe, inclusive spaces for youth development.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver weekly basketball training sessions and monthly inter‑school matches, integrating health and SRHR messaging.
• Provide mentorship and psychosocial support to players, covering MHPSS, child and adolescent development, and psychological first aid.
• Facilitate adolescent SRHR training on menstrual health, anatomy, STI/HIV awareness, gender‑based violence prevention and unintended pregnancy prevention.
• Organise community activities such as radio talks, drama clubs, arts‑craft sessions and sports tournaments to raise health awareness.
• Coordinate with schools, local elders and authorities, ensuring integration of health, nutrition and sport components.
• Collect, analyse and report programme data, document success stories and advise the Programme Manager on equipment needs.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training, Sports Science, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Public Health, Nutrition or related field.
• Demonstrated experience playing or coaching basketball (or another sport) at state or national level, with at least 1‑2 years of coaching experience.
• Knowledge of adolescent sexual and reproductive health rights is an advantage.
• South Sudanese nationality.
