General Surgeon – Emergency Programme (Kuajok, South Sudan)

About the role

The General Surgeon will provide comprehensive surgical care at Kuajok State Hospital, supporting the Emergency Programme and collaborating with hospital management. The role includes performing elective and emergency operations, training clinical staff, and ensuring high‑quality patient care in line with Ministry of Health guidelines.

Key responsibilities

• Perform elective and emergency (minor and major) surgical procedures based on patient needs and supply availability.
• Lead daily ward rounds, monitor inpatient recovery, and issue discharge orders.
• Organise and deliver training and refresher courses for local health staff, based on identified needs.
• Supervise clinical care, conduct referral clinics, and coordinate patient bookings with anaesthetists and hospital leadership.
• Support programme reporting, data collection on theatre performance, and documentation of impact stories.
• Advise on essential medicines, consumables and equipment required for uninterrupted surgical services.

Required profile

• Postgraduate certification or completion of specialty training in General Surgery (minimum 3 years) from a recognised institution.
• At least 2 years of experience as a General Surgeon in a high‑volume hospital.
• South Sudanese nationality (position open to South Sudanese nationals only).
• Ability to work collaboratively with hospital management, programme staff and external stakeholders.
