Country Director – South Sudan & Uganda

About the role

Mercy Corps is looking for a Country Director for its South Sudan and Uganda portfolio, based in Juba. The role is full-time, exempt and regular, at Field Level 7, and carries frequent contact with participants and direct contact with children. The Country Director develops and manages all programming and operations, oversees multi-sector programmes accountable to participants and donors, builds a cohesive team across both countries and connects the two country programmes into a portfolio aligned with the regional and agency vision.

Key responsibilities

• Refine and articulate Mercy Corps' strategy and contribute to the regional strategic vision, engaging donors, partners and communities to secure resources.
• Lead country strategy development and annual country planning, and set direction for the country team.
• Support the programme and operations teams to adapt to contextual changes such as climate impacts, conflict and emerging opportunities.
• Partner with the regional team and other East African country programmes to develop strategic regional programming.
• Recruit, manage and onboard a skilled team, uphold a culture of trust, integrity, safeguarding and compliance with the Code of Conduct, and ensure people-focused HR systems.
• Oversee programme quality and impact, using required monitoring and evaluation systems, and drive research and learning on resilience, climate change, peace, governance and market systems.
• Ensure compliance with the Programme Management Minimum Standards.
