About the role
UNICEF is seeking a Social & Behaviour Change Specialist (RCCE) on a six‑month temporary assignment to lead risk communication and community engagement for BVD/Ebola preparedness and response in Yambio and surrounding high‑risk counties of South Sudan. The specialist will ensure communities receive accurate, timely information and that two‑way feedback mechanisms support surveillance and response activities.
Key responsibilities
- Generate and analyse rapid social and behavioural evidence on BVD/Ebola to inform RCCE design, targeting and monitoring.
- Design, plan and implement evidence‑based RCCE and AAP activities with strong community participation.
- Strengthen and manage hotline and community‑based surveillance feedback loops, including rumour‑management.
- Build capacity of UNICEF, government, partner staff and volunteers to deliver quality RCCE and community surveillance.
- Advocate for community engagement, mobilise resources and coordinate with health, WASH, education, child protection, NPHI, Ministry of Health, WHO and other partners.
- Travel to high‑risk counties and points of entry to support field implementation.
Required profile
- Advanced university degree in public health, social sciences, communication or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in risk communication, community engagement or behaviour change in humanitarian or health emergencies.
- Proven experience working with government, NGOs and UN agencies in outbreak settings.
- Strong analytical skills to generate and use rapid social‑behavioural evidence.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages is an asset.
