About the role
The Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) Specialist will support UNICEF South Sudan’s emergency preparedness and response activities from Juba. The role focuses on designing and implementing SBC, risk communication, and community engagement interventions during disease outbreaks, displacement, floods and other humanitarian crises.
Key responsibilities
- Design, implement, monitor and document SBC and RCCE interventions for emergency preparedness and response.
- Provide technical support to emergency response teams and field offices to ensure evidence‑based, participatory, inclusive and conflict‑sensitive community engagement.
- Coordinate collection, analysis and use of community feedback, rumours, perceptions and social‑listening data to inform programme decisions.
- Develop and adapt emergency communication materials, key messages, community engagement tools, facilitation guides and partner briefs.
- Strengthen community engagement platforms involving mobilisers, religious leaders, youth and women’s groups, schools, health facilities and local authorities.
- Contribute SBC insights and community feedback to emergency preparedness plans, rapid assessments, contingency plans, response strategies and situation reports.
- Build capacity of UNICEF staff, government counterparts, implementing partners and community actors on SBC, RCCE, AAP and social‑listening mechanisms.
- Support monitoring, reporting and documentation of emergency SBC and AAP results, lessons learned and good practices.
Required profile
- Minimum of 3 years professional experience in SBC, RCCE, AAP, emergency preparedness and response or humanitarian coordination.
- Experience supporting emergency operations involving disease outbreaks, displacement, floods or other crises.
- Experience in South Sudan or similar fragile, conflict‑affected settings is an asset.
- Proven ability to develop SBC strategies, communication plans, key messages, community engagement tools, training materials and monitoring frameworks.
