Project Director – Climate Smart Agriculture & WASH

About the role

The Project Director will lead the Climate Smart Agriculture and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) project funded by the African Development Bank, supporting Plan International teams in South Sudan and Ethiopia. The role combines technical expertise with strategic management to deliver climate‑resilient food security, livelihood and WASH interventions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement an integrated Food Security & Livelihoods (FSL) and WASH work plan aligned with donor requirements and budgets.
• Design procurement, monitoring, reporting and close‑out plans and ensure timely execution.
• Oversee assessment, design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of climate‑smart agriculture and WASH activities.
• Guarantee strong gender focus (minimum 60% female participation) and youth engagement across all interventions.
• Coordinate with government, NGOs, donors and other stakeholders to mobilise resources and foster partnerships.
• Build capacity of local staff and partners through training, coaching and mentorship.
• Provide strategic direction, linkages with other Plan International programmes and regular updates to senior management and the AfDB.

Required profile

• Extensive knowledge of food security, livelihood systems and WASH development and management.
• Experience with economic inclusion, value‑chain analysis, agribusiness and market development.
• Proven ability to apply global best practices to the South Sudan and Ethiopia contexts.
• Strong background in coordinating multi‑country, donor‑funded projects.
