Risk Communication & Community Engagement Officer (Multiple locations)

About the role
The Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) Officer will lead and coordinate risk communication and community engagement activities for Bundibugyo Virus Disease (BVD) preparedness and response in high‑risk counties of South Sudan. Working closely with the County Health Department and WHO multidisciplinary teams, the incumbent will ensure timely, accurate information reaches affected and at‑risk communities.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, implement and regularly update the county BVD RCCE action plan in line with national guidance and the county incident action plan.
- Establish or strengthen county RCCE coordination mechanisms, defining clear roles, activity mapping and reporting structures.
- Set up community feedback and rumor‑management systems to monitor perceptions and misinformation.
- Strengthen community‑based surveillance, referral pathways and promote early care‑seeking behavior.
- Support partners, health facilities and points of entry in delivering consistent risk communication messages.
- Document lessons learned and contribute to regional RCCE knowledge sharing.
Required profile
- Relevant experience in risk communication, community engagement or public health emergency response.
- Demonstrated ability to work with government health authorities, NGOs and community structures.
- Strong analytical and reporting skills, with experience in developing action plans.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages is an asset.
Required skills
- Effective interpersonal and facilitation skills for multi‑stakeholder coordination.
- Ability to produce clear, culturally appropriate communication materials.
- Experience with rumor‑tracking and feedback mechanisms.
- Understanding of disease surveillance and referral systems.
