About the role
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in South Sudan is seeking a Natural Resources Sector Strategy Specialist to lead the finalisation of the Natural Resources Sector Strategy (NRSS). The consultant will work closely with the Natural Resources Sector Working Group, development partners and government institutions to ensure the strategy is coherent, actionable and ready for adoption.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct a comprehensive technical review of the draft NRSS, integrating stakeholder comments, evidence and policy recommendations.
- Facilitate structured consultations with relevant ministries, departments and agencies to validate priorities and strengthen ownership.
- Coordinate with the Natural Resources Sector Working Group, Development Partners Working Group and other stakeholders to align the strategy with national policies.
- Prepare revised strategy documents and supporting materials for formal adoption.
- Provide technical guidance to the Secretariat and ensure the final strategy meets quality standards.
Required profile
- Advanced degree in natural resources management, agriculture, environmental science, or a related field.
- Proven experience in policy development, strategic planning and stakeholder engagement in the natural resources sector.
- Strong understanding of South Sudan’s natural resource context, including challenges such as climate variability and institutional capacity.
- Excellent analytical and communication skills, with ability to work in a multi‑partner environment.
