IPC/WASH Officer – County Level (Multiple Duty Stations)

About the role

The IPC/WASH Officer will be embedded in a priority county in South Sudan, providing technical and operational support for infection prevention and control (IPC) and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) readiness and response. The role focuses on Bundibugyo Virus Disease (BVD) preparedness while maintaining readiness for other epidemic‑prone diseases.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a costed county IPC/WASH readiness and response action plan aligned with national and county risk profiles.
• Support the County Health Department to establish or strengthen the IPC/WASH component of the county incident management structure, including roles, meeting schedules and partner coordination.
• Conduct rapid IPC/WASH readiness assessments in health facilities, points of entry, isolation sites and ambulances.
• Identify and close critical IPC/WASH gaps, mentor health workers and monitor compliance with safety protocols.
• Provide rapid technical assistance during alerts or confirmed cases and support ongoing IPC readiness for cholera, measles, mpox and other diseases.

Required profile

• Experience in IPC and WASH within public health emergencies or humanitarian settings.
• Ability to work in field environments and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong analytical skills to assess facility readiness and track action items.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages is an asset.
