International UNV Staff Counsellor

About the role

The International UNV Staff Counsellor will support UNICEF South Sudan’s staff wellbeing framework by delivering professional counselling, psychosocial support and stress‑management interventions. Based in Juba, the role serves both the country office and field locations, enhancing staff resilience and promoting mental health across the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Provide confidential individual and group psychosocial support, including assessment, short‑term intervention and referrals.
• Advise managers on healthy work practices, resilience‑building and staff support strategies.
• Design and deliver preventative programmes such as psycho‑education workshops, webinars and anti‑stigma initiatives.
• Conduct mandatory pre‑ and post‑deployment briefings for new and surge staff.
• Establish and maintain a network of external mental‑health service providers.
• Coordinate and strengthen the Peer Support Volunteer (PSV) Programme.
• Deliver timely psychosocial support after critical incidents, including psychological first aid and family support.
• Compile and share aggregated wellbeing statistics, trend analyses and emerging risk alerts.

Required profile

• Qualified mental‑health professional with experience in counselling, psychosocial support and crisis intervention.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively with management, People & Culture, security, medical services and UN wellbeing units.
• Strong communication skills for delivering workshops, webinars and wellbeing resources.
