Hydrologist (CST II) – Juba, South Sudan

About the role

The World Food Programme is seeking a Hydrologist (Consultant Level II) to support its operations in Juba, South Sudan. The role will focus on analysing water‑related risks and providing technical guidance to ensure humanitarian activities can continue despite seasonal flooding and infrastructure challenges.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and map hydrological conditions, flood risks and water availability across the country.
• Provide technical advice to programme teams on water‑related mitigation measures and infrastructure planning.
• Support the design and implementation of water‑management interventions, including drainage, flood‑control and safe water supply solutions.
• Produce reports, maps and data visualisations to inform decision‑making and donor reporting.
• Collaborate with local authorities, NGOs and other UN agencies on water‑resource coordination.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in Hydrology, Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Science or a related field.
• Relevant professional experience in hydrological assessments, flood risk analysis or water‑resource management, preferably in humanitarian or low‑resource settings.
• Ability to work in challenging environments and adapt to rapidly changing security and climatic conditions.
• Strong analytical and report‑writing skills in English.
