Head of Education

About the role

Save the Children is seeking a Head of Education to lead the strategic direction, development and quality of its education programming in South Sudan. Based in Juba with frequent field travel, the role reports to the Director of Programme Quality and Impact and will shape education interventions across humanitarian and development contexts.

Key responsibilities

• Define and implement the education strategy for South Sudan, ensuring alignment with Save the Children’s global education framework.
• Provide technical advice and share best practices to guarantee high‑quality programme design, implementation and evidence‑based advocacy.
• Represent Save the Children with national and local governments, UN agencies, NGOs, donors and the private sector.
• Lead Education in Emergencies (EiE) and nexus programming, participating in technical working groups during crises.
• Manage a team comprising an Education Technical Specialist, a Gender & Inclusion Specialist and the South Sudan Education Cluster Coordinator.
• Collaborate closely with the Country Management Team, programme staff and the global education community.

Required profile

• Extensive senior‑level experience in education programming, preferably in humanitarian or post‑conflict settings.
• Proven ability to influence policy, conduct advocacy and build strong external partnerships.
• Strong understanding of child safeguarding, with Level 3 clearance.
• Excellent leadership and team‑management skills.
