Generalist Field Officer 2

About the role

The Generalist Field Officer supports the Field Delegate in planning, implementing and monitoring protection and prevention activities in the Malakal Sub‑Delegation of Upper Nile State, South Sudan. The role involves liaising with authorities, coordinating with ICRC colleagues and Red Cross partners, and delivering training on International Humanitarian Law.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the main liaison between ICRC and political authorities, maintaining a network of key interlocutors.
• Monitor political, security and humanitarian developments, providing analysis for operational planning.
• Travel across Upper Nile State (Malakal, Panyikang, Pigi, Baliet, Adong, Maban) to support field activities.
• Organise seminars, workshops and training sessions on ICRC mandate and IHL.
• Maintain up‑to‑date mapping of interlocutors and ensure regular communication.
• Compile statistical reports and data for internal departments.
• Provide translation services during meetings and communication sessions.

Required profile

• Experience in humanitarian protection, security monitoring or related field work.
• Strong ability to build and sustain relationships with government and Red Cross actors.
• Willingness to travel frequently in challenging environments.
• Excellent communication and reporting skills.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages is an advantage.
