East Africa Regional Technical Advisor I – Polio

About the role

The East Africa Regional Technical Advisor I (Polio) will lead strategic and technical aspects of the STRIDES activity for polio eradication across participating East African countries. Working remotely, the Advisor will ensure alignment with global guidance, national policies, and donor regulations while delivering high‑quality technical assistance.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical oversight of in‑country implementation of polio surveillance, laboratory strengthening, and data analysis.
• Collaborate with global, regional, and country teams to ensure fidelity to STRIDES technical approaches and adapt interventions to evolving epidemiologic contexts.
• Support capacity building, mentoring, and technical assistance for country teams, local partners, and government counterparts.
• Develop tools, guidance, learning products, and public goods to strengthen the STRIDES polio portfolio.
• Represent STRIDES polio activities with donors and stakeholders such as the U.S. Department of State, UNICEF, CDC, and GPEI technical groups.
• Coordinate with FHI 360, consortium, and local partners to ensure rigorous reporting and compliance with contractual and quality standards.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in complex public‑health programs, preferably in infectious‑disease surveillance or polio eradication.
• Strong understanding of global health security priorities and donor regulations.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively across multi‑country, multi‑stakeholder environments.
