Driver / Mechanic

About the role

Save the Children is looking for a Driver / Mechanic in Tonj, South Sudan. The post provides transport for SC staff, visitors and guests and keeps the fleet running by managing spare parts and performing maintenance. The role covers daily driving, vehicle upkeep, basic mechanical work and oversight of third-party maintenance.

Key responsibilities

• Provide transport for SC staff, visitors and guests and keep vehicles clean and in good condition
• Carry out daily, weekly and monthly maintenance checks and service A and B on the fleet, including generators, motorcycles and engine diagnostics
• Keep accurate vehicle logs, report maintenance needs and accidents in writing, and follow fuel consumption estimates
• Ensure vehicles are used only for their assigned purpose, with seat belts used and safety regulations followed
• Request spare parts, oversee third-party maintenance providers and check that parts are genuine
• Update fleet inspection reports and maintenance records, and advise the Field Manager and Supply Chain Officer on maintenance issues
• Assist with local purchases, loading of cargo and test drives in line with the driver policy
• Follow health and safety policies, including wearing overalls and safety goggles, and maintain technical skills through training

Required profile

• Secondary or primary school level education
• Valid driving licence
• Training from a recognised mechanical institute
• Desirable: 2 years of previous experience and knowledge of INGOs
• Desirable: knowledge of Save the Children systems and ways of working
