County Bundibugyo Virus Disease Readiness & Response Coordinator

About the role

The County Bundibugyo Virus Disease (BVD) Readiness and Response Coordinator provides operational leadership for BVD preparedness and, if needed, response activities in a high‑risk county of South Sudan. Working closely with the County Health Department, the coordinator translates national emergency plans into concrete county actions, closes readiness gaps, and ensures rapid activation of surveillance, investigation, isolation, referral, laboratory, IPC/WASH, RCCE, logistics and other response mechanisms.

Key responsibilities

• Lead day‑to‑day WHO‑supported BVD readiness and potential response activities in the assigned county.
• Collaborate with county authorities, State Ministry of Health, National Public Health Institute and UN/NGO partners to operationalise the national readiness and response plan.
• Maintain an up‑to‑date picture of county readiness, identify bottlenecks and facilitate timely solutions.
• Trigger and coordinate a rapid, safe response when a suspected or confirmed case is reported.
• Integrate BVD preparedness with ongoing surveillance and response for cholera, measles, malaria, mpox and other public‑health emergencies.

Required profile

• Experience in public‑health emergency coordination or disease‑surveillance programmes.
• Familiarity with South Sudan’s health system, border health challenges and multi‑agency collaboration.
• Ability to work under the supervision of an EPR Team Lead/Incident Manager and follow technical guidance from WHO field supervisors.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with county officials, partners and communities.
