Country Director South Sudan

About the role

Welthungerhilfe is seeking a dynamic leader to head its country programme in South Sudan. Based in Juba, the Country Director will oversee both humanitarian assistance and long‑term development initiatives, ensuring alignment with the organization’s global strategy and values.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and overall management of WHH’s country programme in a complex, evolving context.
• Lead high‑quality humanitarian and development programming, driving innovation and the Food Systems Approach.
• Ensure financial sustainability through effective resource management, stewardship, and mobilization.
• Build and lead a high‑performing senior management team, fostering accountability, learning, and adherence to WHH’s Code of Conduct.
• Manage risk, safeguarding, security, duty of care, and business continuity.
• Develop and strengthen partnerships with government, donors, UN agencies, civil society, and local partners.
• Represent WHH externally and act as the legal representative in South Sudan.
• Ensure compliance with organizational policies and donor requirements.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in leading humanitarian and development programmes in complex environments.
• Proven track record in resource mobilization, donor engagement, and securing funding.
• Strong leadership and people‑management skills, with experience managing senior teams.
• Excellent strategic thinking, negotiation, and partnership‑building abilities.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages is an advantage.
