Country Director for Humanitarian Programme in South Sudan

About the role

DanChurchAid is seeking an experienced Country Director to lead its $18 million programme in South Sudan. Based in Juba with regular field travel, you will shape strategy, ensure security, and drive impact across humanitarian and development interventions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a team of 36 national and 10 international staff, fostering a positive work environment.
• Define and implement the strategic direction of the programme, ensuring quality, accountability and innovation.
• Monitor security risks and adapt operations to the evolving context.
• Build and maintain relationships with donors, partners, UN agencies and local NGOs, identifying fundraising opportunities.
• Oversee programme areas including cash transfers, protection, gender equality, agro‑ecology, economic inclusion and humanitarian mine action.

Required profile

• 5+ years in senior leadership (Country Director or equivalent) and 10+ years managing humanitarian/development programmes.
• Proven experience in fundraising, donor relations and innovative financing.
• Deep understanding of Triple Nexus, gender mainstreaming, rights‑based programming and Core Humanitarian Standards.
• Experience working with local partners and self‑implemented interventions.
• Master’s degree in a relevant field and fluency in English (written and spoken).
