Community Research Facilitator

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a Community Research Facilitator to support a multi‑community study in a humanitarian setting. You will work directly with participants, local advisory groups, and the research team to ensure ethical, inclusive, and well‑documented community sessions.

Key responsibilities

• Recruit participants, obtain informed consent and assent in Dinka, and manage consent documentation for each session.
• Lead photography orientation, train participants on device use and ethical photography, and provide ongoing support during the 7‑10 day photography period.
• Facilitate group photo discussion sessions using the SHOWeD method, ensuring a safe, balanced environment for all voices.
• Record audio, take detailed field notes, link photos to participant codes, and securely transfer data to the Research Officer.
• Transcribe and translate recordings from the local language to English while adhering to data‑security and safeguarding protocols.

Required profile

• Strong commitment to humanitarian principles and community‑centered research.
• Fluency in Dinka and English, with ability to conduct consent processes in both languages.
• Excellent facilitation skills, capable of managing group dynamics and power imbalances.
• Attention to detail for accurate data collection, transcription, and documentation.

Required skills

• Proficiency in using audio‑recording equipment.
• Basic photography device handling and ethical guidelines.
