Communication Officer – UNICEF South Sudan

About the role

The Communication Officer will be based in Juba, supporting UNICEF’s communication, advocacy and visibility initiatives for health programmes and broader child‑rights priorities in South Sudan. The role focuses on creating compelling content, engaging with media, monitoring impact and assisting with advocacy campaigns and special events.

Key responsibilities

• Support implementation of UNICEF South Sudan’s communication strategy and annual workplan.
• Gather programme information and develop stories, briefing notes, web articles, photos, videos and advocacy materials.
• Draft and edit press releases, human‑interest stories and multimedia content for digital and traditional media.
• Maintain and organise communication assets, publications and audiovisual resources.
• Update media contact databases, facilitate media visits, field missions and interviews.
• Prepare communication kits for high‑level visits, donor missions and events.
• Monitor media coverage, track public perception and contribute recommendations to enhance visibility.
• Support audience research, data collection and reporting on communication activities.
• Assist in organising public campaigns, advocacy initiatives and special events.
