Teacher Professional Development Specialist

About the role

The Teacher Professional Development Specialist will lead the design, implementation and strengthening of teacher professional development systems for the Education for All South Sudan (EFASS) programme. Working in a fragile, resource‑constrained environment, the role aims to improve teaching quality, build teacher capacity and promote sustainable, context‑responsive professional development models.

Key responsibilities

• Design and adapt teacher professional development (TPD) frameworks aligned with national education policies and the South Sudan context.
• Develop and oversee continuous teacher training programmes (CTPD, pre‑service and in‑service), integrating child‑centred pedagogy, foundational literacy and numeracy, inclusive and gender‑responsive teaching, and psychosocial support.
• Conduct teacher capacity assessments, create teacher profiles and provide technical guidance to partners on curriculum and pedagogy.
• Coordinate with the Ministry of General Education and Instruction (MoGEI) tutors and teacher training institutes to deliver in‑service training for female teachers and establish a strong female teachers’ network in Magwi and Torit.
• Manage the CPD budget, procure training materials and support monitoring of teaching and learning processes in schools.

Required profile

• Professional experience in teacher professional development, curriculum design or teacher training.
• Familiarity with South Sudan’s education system, national curriculum and multilingual classroom settings.
• Ability to work collaboratively with ministries, NGOs and local training institutes.
• Commitment to gender‑responsive approaches and child safeguarding (Level 3).
