Strategic Communications and Coordination Consultant

About the role

The consultant will lead strategic communications, visibility and engagement support for the UNCT‑HCT collective outcomes in South Sudan, working within the Area‑Based Coordination Secretariat.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the implementation and periodic refinement of the UNCT‑HCT strategic communications and visibility plan, independently identifying priorities and products.
• Produce high‑quality strategic communication and knowledge products, including briefs, presentations, human‑centred stories, case studies, infographics, videos and social media content.
• Analyse, document and communicate field‑level implementation of the joint plan, covering coordination missions, ABC meetings, community consultations and integrated service delivery.
• Develop and maintain digital knowledge‑management products such as dashboards, senior‑level presentations and a knowledge hub.
• Provide substantive communications support for key events, workshops, launches, high‑level engagements and field visits.
• Ensure consistent and coherent messaging across UN agencies and partners, aligned with UNSDCF, HNRP and Durable Solutions strategies.
• Coordinate closely with the UN Communications Group and agency focal points to amplify results at national and sub‑national levels.
• Support local visibility and community outreach through radio, local media and community‑based communication mechanisms.
• Develop communication metrics, consolidate inputs from UN agencies and partners, and translate results data into accessible dashboards and visual products.
• Strengthen communications partnerships with local authorities, civil society organisations and community networks to ensure context‑appropriate messaging.

Required profile

• High degree of initiative and independence in identifying communications and knowledge‑management needs.
• Ability to translate complex policy, programme and results information into high‑quality strategic products with limited day‑to‑day guidance.
