Space Applications Expert, Earth Observation & Copernicus

About the role

The project “Support to the Africa‑EU Space Partnership Programme – AESPP Boost” seeks a Non‑Key Expert to lead the development, deployment and uptake of Earth Observation (EO) services and applications across Africa. The expert will focus on solutions built on Copernicus data to address development, climate and environmental challenges.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver EO services and applications using Copernicus products in sectors such as early‑warning, climate monitoring, agriculture, water management and biodiversity.
• Support the integration of EO solutions into African institutional frameworks and promote user uptake.
• Provide technical guidance for the preparation of project proposals and implementation plans.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure alignment with the programme’s strategic objectives.

Required profile

• Master’s degree (or higher) in geomatics, remote sensing, environmental science, meteorology, engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 8 years of professional experience in Earth Observation, geospatial services or climate/environmental services.
• At least 4 years of experience designing or delivering EO applications, preferably with Copernicus data.
• Demonstrated experience working with African institutions or users is an asset.
• Fluent English; working knowledge of French and/or Portuguese considered a plus.
