About the role

The Shelter and Settlement Officer reports to the SNFI Team Leader and provides day‑to‑day supervision of construction, infrastructure, and SNFI assessment and distribution activities in humanitarian settings.

Key responsibilities

  • Supervise day‑to‑day construction and infrastructure activities, ensuring quality of shelter and non‑food items (SNFI) distribution.
  • Conduct assessments, verification and rapid needs assessments in emergencies, coordinating with community leaders, the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission and other partners.
  • Prepare bills of quantities, technical specifications and oversee the construction of shelter units by vulnerable beneficiaries.
  • Perform quality control of materials and site monitoring in line with SPHERE standards, and maintain accurate project documentation and beneficiary records.
  • Report regularly to the SNFI Team Leader and ensure compliance with the DRC Code of Conduct.

Required profile

  • Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering, Construction, Architecture or a related technical field.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience; experience in NGOs is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and CAD software (AutoCAD or ArchiCAD).
  • Strong planning, problem‑solving, communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Knowledge of local languages and Arabic is a plus.
