Radio Operator (SOC Assistant)

About the role

The United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) is seeking a Radio Operator to join its Security Operations Centre (SOC) in Juba, South Sudan. Working as a SOC Assistant, you will provide critical telecommunications support during security incidents and emergencies, ensuring reliable 24‑hour radio coverage.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor, channel and log all radio communications, tracking UN personnel and vehicle movements.
• Coordinate with UNDSS Security Officers and UNSMS focal points to maintain accurate security‑related information flow.
• Produce daily radio checks, regular and ad‑hoc reports, and assist in summarising security incidents.
• Provide training and support to users on telecommunications equipment and Security Risk Management Measures.
• Maintain inventory of radio and telecom equipment and suggest improvements.
• Create and update databases of call signs, contacts, and other critical information.
• Follow established emergency response procedures to ensure prompt assistance.

Required profile

• Ability to work rotating shifts and be available on short notice.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to produce well‑organized reports.
• Team‑oriented mindset with minimal supervision.
