Medium Voltage Operation & Maintenance Engineer

About the role

The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) is seeking a qualified Medium Voltage (MV) Operation & Maintenance Engineer on a short‑term consultancy basis. The role will support the safe, reliable and efficient operation of MV distribution networks across UNMISS locations.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor MV feeders, substations, transformers and switchgear in accordance with established procedures.
• Perform switching operations, load monitoring and voltage control to maintain network stability.
• Develop and execute preventive and corrective maintenance plans for all MV equipment.
• Troubleshoot faults, conduct root‑cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Coordinate testing, servicing and inspection of MV switchgear, transformers and protection systems.
• Support commissioning, energisation and upgrades of new MV infrastructure.
• Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards, LOTO, isolation and permit‑to‑work protocols.
• Prepare technical reports, operational logs and maintenance records.

Required profile

• Relevant engineering degree (Electrical/Electronic) or equivalent professional experience.
• Proven experience in operating and maintaining medium‑voltage power distribution systems.
• Familiarity with UN or humanitarian mission environments is an advantage.
