Laboratory and Diagnostic Officer

About the role

The Laboratory and Diagnostic Officer provides basic technical support for laboratory systems strengthening and diagnostic activities under the STRIDES South Sudan activity. Working closely with senior technical staff, government partners and in‑country collaborators, the Officer helps implement day‑to‑day laboratory interventions and contributes to capacity building of the national laboratory system.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in technical support for laboratory systems strengthening aligned with South Sudan’s health priorities and STRIDES workplan.
• Prepare documentation, logistics and follow‑up materials for meetings with the Ministry of Health and other government counterparts.
• Develop and disseminate laboratory tools, guidelines, training materials and standard operating procedures.
• Monitor and maintain project protocols, instruments, data sets, manuals and reports related to laboratory systems and diagnostics.
• Conduct literature searches on emerging issues in laboratory systems, diagnostics and global health security.
• Provide quality control and quality assurance support for laboratory‑related outputs and deliverables.
• Support work‑plan preparation, tracking of activity progress and reporting for client and funder meetings.

Required profile

• Experience providing technical support in laboratory settings.
• Familiarity with developing and sharing laboratory guidelines and training materials.
• Ability to work collaboratively with government officials, partners and senior technical teams.
