Field Protection Associate (Expedited)

About the role

The Field Protection Associate will reinforce IOM’s protection, gender equality and inclusion efforts across its humanitarian, development and peace‑building programmes in South Sudan. Working closely with IOM teams and partner organisations, the associate will help design, implement and monitor protection and GBV prevention activities, ensuring they are integrated into multi‑sectoral responses.

Key responsibilities

• Support the development and mainstreaming of protection, gender‑based violence (GBV) prevention and response strategies within IOM programmes.
• Provide technical guidance and capacity‑building to IOM staff and partners on protection risk mitigation, GBV referrals, Psychological First Aid and Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA).
• Assist in the collection, analysis and reporting of protection data to inform programme adjustments.
• Coordinate with sector clusters (e.g., WASH, Shelter, Health) to ensure protection considerations are embedded in all activities.
• Contribute to the preparation of protection‑related documentation, training materials and advocacy briefs.

Required profile

• Relevant academic background in humanitarian protection, social sciences, public health or a related field.
• Experience working in protection, GBV, or related humanitarian programmes, preferably in conflict‑affected settings.
• Strong understanding of IOM’s protection standards, GBV response frameworks and PSEA guidelines.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with ability to work in a multicultural environment.

Required skills

• Knowledge of protection and GBV risk assessment tools.
• Familiarity with Psychological First Aid (PFA) protocols.
• Ability to develop training and capacity‑building materials.
