Epidemiologist

About the role

The World Health Organization is seeking an Epidemiologist to join its team in Juba, South Sudan. The role provides epidemiological, operational, and coordination support for Bundibugyo Virus Disease preparedness and response, while contributing to the management of other priority public health emergencies.

Key responsibilities

• Support incident management and coordination of public health emergency operations.
• Strengthen disease surveillance systems, alert management, and outbreak investigations.
• Lead epidemiological analysis, data interpretation, and produce situation reports and dashboards.
• Assist BVD preparedness and response, including case investigation, contact tracing, laboratory coordination, and health facility readiness.
• Coordinate response activities for cholera, measles, mpox, malaria, hepatitis E, poliovirus, meningitis, floods, conflict‑related emergencies, and other threats.
• Build capacity of surveillance officers, rapid response teams, and health workers through mentoring, training, and technical support.
• Ensure timely reporting, data quality assurance, monitoring, and documentation of public health interventions.
• Support operational planning, logistics, budgeting, and coordination with government, UN agencies, and humanitarian partners.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of professional experience in public health surveillance, outbreak investigation, and communicable disease control.
• Experience in data analysis, epidemiological reporting, incident management, and partner coordination.
• Bachelor’s degree in Medicine, Public Health, Epidemiology, Nursing, Environmental Health, or a related health discipline.
• Post‑graduate training in Public Health, Epidemiology, Field Epidemiology, Emergency Management, or a related field is an advantage.
• Fluent English; Swahili proficiency is desirable.
