Emergency Programme Officer

About the role

UNICEF is seeking an Emergency Programme Officer to support preparedness and response activities across the Southern Sudan area. Reporting to the Emergency Specialist, the officer will coordinate multi‑sectoral humanitarian interventions, working closely with UNICEF staff, government partners, NGOs and UN agencies.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical support to partners in WASH, health, nutrition, child protection and social‑behavior change programmes.
• Conduct needs assessments, identify gaps and contribute to emergency planning and response.
• Monitor programme performance, collect and analyse data, and prepare progress reports and situation updates.
• Coordinate with UN agencies, NGOs, government authorities and donors to ensure effective humanitarian action.
• Strengthen the capacity of local implementing partners through training and mentorship.
• Support donor proposals, funding requests and resource mobilisation efforts.
• Engage communities in programme design, implementation and monitoring.
• Undertake regular field visits to provide operational support.

Required profile

• Minimum three years of professional experience in humanitarian or emergency response programmes.
• Experience working in complex or emergency contexts is highly desirable.
• Master’s degree in Social Sciences, International Relations, Social Development, Community Development or equivalent.
• Fluent English; basic Arabic is a plus.
