Education Officer – PlayMatters 3.0 (South Sudan)

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking an Education Officer to lead day‑to‑day implementation of PlayMatters 3.0 (PM3.0) in South Sudan. This multi‑year initiative, funded by the LEGO Foundation, uses a Learning through Play (LtP) approach to expand safe, inclusive and quality learning opportunities for children affected by crisis.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and monitor the rollout of the LtP Core Package, including teacher training, continuous professional development, classroom support and community engagement.
• Work closely with teachers, school leaders, PTAs/SMCs and local education authorities to embed LtP practices in schools.
• Provide first‑line technical and operational support to national partners and field teams.
• Collect routine monitoring data, prepare reports and ensure compliance with workplans and budgets.
• Collaborate with consortium partners (War Child Alliance, Plan International) and national education actors to strengthen system capacity.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in education programming within humanitarian or development contexts.
• Strong understanding of learning‑through‑play methodologies and teacher capacity‑building.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse partners and navigate complex field environments.
• Excellent communication and reporting skills.
