Disease Surveillance & Outbreak Project Officer

About the role

The Disease Surveillance & Outbreak Project Officer will support the implementation of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) preparedness and response activities in selected counties of South Sudan. Working closely with state and county health departments, the officer will ensure timely execution of surveillance, infection prevention, risk communication and emergency preparedness interventions.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate day‑to‑day implementation of EVD preparedness and response activities, including surveillance, IPC, RCCE and emergency simulations.
• Provide technical assistance to county health teams on national EVD guidelines, rapid response mechanisms and IPC standards.
• Collect, verify and compile project data, prepare regular progress reports and document best practices.
• Facilitate meetings, trainings, simulations and supportive supervision with health officials and community leaders.
• Maintain stakeholder relationships and represent the project in task‑force and technical working group meetings.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in public health, nursing, epidemiology, health systems management or a related field.
• Minimum three years of experience in public health programs, emergency preparedness, disease outbreak response or humanitarian work.
• Experience working with government health structures in South Sudan is desirable.
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate projects, monitor indicators and produce quality reports.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience with data management tools for monitoring and reporting.
