Disaster Risk Reduction & Climate Change Adaptation Officer

About the role

The Disaster Risk Reduction & Climate Change Adaptation (DRR/CCA) Officer will support the BRACE programme’s effort to build climate‑resilient education systems in Kapoeta East. The role focuses on strengthening school and community preparedness for climate‑related shocks while ensuring child‑centered safety measures.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and lead DRR/CCA risk, vulnerability and capacity assessments in schools and communities.
• Develop risk‑informed preparedness and contingency plans with active participation of children and local stakeholders.
• Collect risk data and establish Early Warning Systems for schools and surrounding communities.
• Disseminate early warning information on disasters and climate risks across programme areas in a timely manner.
• Collaborate closely with local government authorities and sectoral line departments to obtain sector‑specific early warning data.
• Facilitate DRR/CCA and anticipatory action training for targeted schools and community members.

Required profile

• Experience in disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, or related fields, preferably within the education sector.
• Demonstrated ability to work with children and communities, meeting Child Safeguarding Level 3 requirements.
• Strong coordination skills to engage local authorities, NGOs and school staff.
