Radio Operator (SOC Assistant)

About the role

The Radio Operator will work in the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) Security Operations Centre in Juba, South Sudan. Reporting to the SOC Supervisor, the incumbent will provide 24‑hour telecommunications support during security incidents and emergencies, often on rotating shifts.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and channel all radio communications, tracking UN personnel and vehicle movements to ensure continuous coverage.
• Coordinate with UNDSS Security Officers and security focal points of UNSMS organisations to facilitate accurate information flow.
• Produce regular and ad‑hoc reports, including daily radio checks and summaries of security incidents.
• Provide training and support to users on telecommunications equipment and Security Risk Management Measures.
• Maintain inventory of telecommunications equipment and recommend improvements.
• Create and maintain databases of call signs, addresses, telephone numbers and related information.
• Follow established emergency response procedures to deliver prompt assistance.

Required profile

• Ability to work with minimal supervision as part of a team.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts and be available on short notice.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate, well‑organized reports.
