Chief of Mission (Deputy) – Senior Leadership Role

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) seeks a senior professional to serve as Chief of Mission (Deputy) in a country office. Reporting to the Regional Director and working closely with the Director General, the incumbent will lead IOM’s mandate at country level, ensuring strategic alignment with migration policies and UN development objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall policy, administrative, programme and financial leadership for the Country Office.
• Develop and implement the country’s strategic migration programme in consultation with headquarters, regional offices, member states and other stakeholders.
• Represent IOM in national migration policy discussions and ensure integration of IOM policies into national priorities.
• Coordinate with the Resident Coordinator on UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework objectives and report on collective UN results.
• Oversee project development, implementation and results‑oriented monitoring.
• Foster partnerships with governmental, intergovernmental and non‑governmental actors.

Required profile

• Extensive senior‑level experience in migration, development or related international fields.
• Proven ability to lead large, multi‑disciplinary teams and manage complex programmes.
• Strong understanding of UN systems, Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda.
• Eligibility to participate in the IOM Pathways Pool (internal or external candidates).
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
